At W.M. Davis Infrastructure, safety begins before excavation starts. Our approach combines project-specific planning, trained personnel, competent-person oversight, daily field awareness, and Stop-Work Authority to protect our crews, partners, the public, and the infrastructure entrusted to us.
PLAN THE WORK.
PROTECT THE CREW.
EXECUTE SAFELY.

Safety From Planning Through Completion.
Our safety program is integrated into daily field operations and tailored to the conditions and hazards of each project.
Pre-task planning, excavation planning, utility coordination, traffic considerations, changing site conditions, and project-specific hazards are evaluated before and throughout the work.
Qualified personnel provide field oversight for excavation and trenching operations, helping ensure protective systems, access, soil conditions, and changing hazards are continually evaluated.
Every WMD employee has the authority and responsibility to stop work when an unsafe condition or practice is identified. Work resumes only after the concern has been evaluated and addressed.

EXCAVATION & TRENCH SAFETY
Competent-person oversight, daily excavation evaluations, protective systems, safe access and egress, and changing-condition assessments support safe underground utility operations.
CONFINED SPACE AWARENESS
Training and project-specific planning help crews recognize confined-space hazards and understand the procedures, equipment, and controls required for safe operations.
DAILY FIELD SAFETY
Pre-task discussions, daily excavation reporting, equipment inspections, PPE requirements, and ongoing hazard recognition keep safety active throughout the workday.
GOOD CATCH CULTURE
Employees are encouraged to identify and report potential hazards before they become incidents. Good Catch reporting reinforces WMD’s expectation that every employee plays an active role in protecting the crew.

W.M. Davis Infrastructure invests in ongoing safety education to ensure our crews are prepared for the conditions they encounter in the field. Training reinforces technical knowledge, hazard recognition, safe work practices, and individual responsibility.
